How much fun is breakfast out at Disney World! But let’s face the truth: Eating breakfast as a gluten free diner (plus additional allergies) at a restaurant is often not worth it. Many breakfast foods, ie. pancakes, waffles, toast, can be substituted with gluten free options that are cardboard tasting, grainy, and just plain unsatisfying. For us, add in the xanthan gum allergy and there are few options left for breakfast.
When The Wave at the Contemporary closed, it was replaced with Steakhouse 71 and the Bottomless Mimosa was added to their menu. Now we’re not going to say the only reason we decided to try Steakhouse 71 is for a mimosa, but we were very happy we gave breakfast in Disney World a chance!
Starters & Menu overview
After coffee and our first round of mimosas arrived, our server consulted with us concerning our allergies – gluten and xanthan gum. Of course, the Mickey waffles had xanthan gum in them, but there were plenty of other choices. Offered as gluten entreés on their allergy menu were 3 choices of omelets, Steak and Eggs, The Steakhouse 71 Feast and of course the gluten free Mickey waffles.
Our order & thoughts
For our entreés, we first ordered the Veggie Omelet with a side of bacon. Second entreé was The Steak and Eggs, sunny side up and rare steak. Not sure how the steak is prepared, but we would rate it possibly the second best steak on property – Le Cellier being our first choice. We were happily surprised to be able to have the potatoes, because often they are either cross-contaminated or have xanthan gum (it’s in everything it seems!). Everything was cooked perfectly, warm and tasty! One of the best breakfasts we’ve had anywhere, not just Disney World. We can’t say how many rounds of mimosas we partook, but we relaxed and enjoyed a leisurely meal. We definitely got our money’s worth! The price of the Bottomless Mimosa is comparable to one cocktail price on Disney property, so having even 2 drinks seems like a value.
After breakfast, we hopped on the monorail and spent the rest of the morning in Magic Kingdom.
Hereafter on our visits, we will book at least one breakfast at Steakhouse 71!
UPDATE: April 2022
Our second breakfast at Steakhouse 71 was better than the last! Our server was super attentive and brought Chef Dan out to speak to us. Even the manager stopped by to speak to us about our experiences as allergy diners. We had the same meals as the first time and everything was as great as before! We lingered and enjoyed our mimosas and before we headed over to Magic Kingdom!
